The Iranian news service is reporting that the leader of the British Muslim Initiative (BMI), a part of the U.K Muslim Brotherhood, spoke at event sponsored by a far-left U.K organization protesting a U.S. electronic intelligence facility. According to the report:
Peace campaigners are gathering at Menwith Hill military base in northern England on American Independence Day to declare UK independence from the US. The declaration is being read outside the base, used by the US as largest electronic monitoring station in the world by the Campaign for the Accountability of American Bases (CAAB) on July 4. “We call upon the Government of the United States of America to cease from occupation of any part of British land and withdraw its military powers, as we call upon all Governments everywhere to cease their occupation and control of any foreign territories,” it said. Using the original American declaration of independence, CAAB said that on behalf of the people, they solemnly publish and declare that the UK “is, and of right, ought to be free and independent in the choice of how we exercise our Right of Self-Defence.” Speakers at the event, include Green Party member of the European parliament Caroline Lucas, Mike Love from Together for Peace and Anas Altikriti, spokesman for British Muslim Initiative. CAAB has evolved out of the long campaign of protest at Menwith Hill, from 1992 after local people expressed growing concerns at the arrival of the US Army at the base in 1951 and use by the National Security Agency as part of America’s global spying network. The declaration also demanded that any connection with, or preparation for, the American Missile Defense programme at Menwith Hill and other places in the UK “ceases forthwith”. “We are despairing that the American Government continues to over shadow Earth, Sea, Air and now Space throughout and beyond this most magnificent of Planets,” it said. In a further reference to the US declaration of independence, it said that “all people are created equal, that they are endowed with certain inalienable Rights, that among these is the Liberty together to determine the means by which they, as a free nation, would seek to defend themselves.” “If another state, through its imposing military power, usurps this liberty of choice, then the independent nation must resist and reject the usurpation; otherwise it would be acquiescing to tyranny,” it warned.
The BMI is an offshoot of the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB), another U.K. Brotherhood group, and appears to be continuing the MAB’s prior alliance with U.K far-left groups. Anas Al-Tikriti is the son of Osama Al-Tikriti, one of the leaders of the Iraqi Islamic Party.
