Saudi Religious Organizations Express Support For Saudi Intervention in Yemen

The Saudi Press Agency is reporting that both the Muslim World League (MWL) and the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), two of the most important Saudi religious organizations, have expressed their support for the Saudi King and his Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen. According to the first SP report:

Riyadh, Mar 30, 2015, SPA — The Secretary General of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) Dr. Saleh bin Suleiman Al Wahaibi valued the historical and wise stance of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his response to the appeal of the legitimacy and fraternal duty towards the brotherly people of Yemen.

In a statement, he praised the king’s wise, diplomatic efforts for unity to deter the insurgency in the country of Yemen, praying to Allah Almighty to protect the leadership and the Kingdom.

 According to the second report:

March 27, 2015, SPA — The Muslim World League (MWL) has confirmed its support of the ‘Determination Storm’ Operation to encounter the Houthi rebellion and restore legitimacy to Yemen. This came in a statement issued by the MWL Secretary General Dr. Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Turki in which he said: ‘The Muslim World League, which represents the Muslim peoples and minorities across the world announces the support by all Muslims across the Islamic world of the Determination Storm’s operation, which was launched upon the order issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.’

Last week, the GMBDW reported that the Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen had issued a statement of  “regret” regarding the military action.

Muslim Brothers were instrumental in the founding of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) and the organization continues to enjoy close relations with the global Muslim Brotherhood. U.S. government agencies and officials have argued that WAMY has helped spread Islamic extremism around the world as well as sponsoring terrorism in places such as Bosnia, Israel, and India. In May 2013, Ahram Online published a very useful history of the tumultuous and sometimes difficult to understand relationship between Saudi Arabia and the Global Muslim Brotherhood.

The Muslim World League was established in 1962 as a means for the propagation of Saudi “Wahabbi” Islam. Muslim Brothers played an important role in its founding and the League has always been strongly associated with the Brotherhood. US government officials have testified that MWL has been linked to supporting Islamic terrorist organizations globally and the organization has a long history of anti-Semitism.
