U.K Brotherhood Groups Form Another Anti-Terror Coalition

A variety of media reports indicate that a coalition of U.K. Muslim groups known as Muslims United has initiated a campaign against terrorism called “Not in Our Name.” So far, the campaign includes a dedicated website and a series of national newspaper ads proclaiming support for the security services and a quotation from the Koran reading: “Whoever kills an innocent soul, it is as if he killed the whole of mankind.” A page from the organization’s website lists a wide variety of mostly Muslim Brotherhood groups such as the Muslim Association of Britain, the British Muslim Initiative, and the The Federation of Student Islamic Societies in the UK and Ireland (FOSIS) as well as the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE). The website also contains a link to what appears to be an earlier coalition called Muslims For Britain that initiated a campaign also called “Not In Our Name” following the 2005 London subway bombings. This coalition was much broader and included a number of groups such as pro-Khomeni Al-Khoei Foundation with whom the Muslim Brotherhood in the U.K. has an antagonistic relationship. There is no evidence that the earlier campaign was active beyond the immediate period following the attacks.
