A U.K Muslim Brotherhood organization has invited Bosnian Grand Mufti Mustafa Ceric as a special guest for its event entitled “Why Europe Needs Islam.” According to the Radical Middle Way website, the event will be held on separate days in London and in Birmingham. Dr. Ceric is tied to the Muslim Brotherhood through his membership in the European Council for Fatwa and Research, the theological body led by global Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi, and numerous posts have discussed his role in recent events concerning the Brotherhood. The event will also feature ex-Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Kemal Helbawy and Usama Hasan, Director of the The City Circle. Confidential sources in the U.K. report that despite, Mr. Hasan’s extensive family background of involvement with the Saudi/Muslim Brotherhood network, the City Circle is considered “mainstream” and is quite close to the U.K. establishment.
The Radical Middle Way (RMW), the sponsoring organization, was established in 2006 and describes itself on its website as:
….a Muslim grassroots initiative aimed at articulating a mainstream understanding of Islam that is dynamic, pro-active and relevant, particularly to young British Muslims. The project is managed by young British Muslims themselves…
The RMW has a wide range of associated scholars representing the global Muslim Brotherhood including Tariq Ramadan, German Islamist Murad Hoffman, Canadian muslim Brotherhood leader Jamal Badawi, and Dr. Helbawi and his son Abdur Rahman Helbawi. Other interesting figures associated with the RMW include Egyyptian Grand Mufti Shaykh Ali Gomaa and Egyptian tele-evangelist Amr Khaled. Dr. Ceric recently joined the RMW as an associated scholar.
