The 4th World Islamic Economic Forum, which began today in Kuwait, is co-sponsored by a an umbrella group in the U.K dominated by Muslim Brotherhood groups. The Forum website identifies the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) as one of the six supporting organizations along with the Islamic Develop Bank (IDB) which has also been known to fund Brotherhood projects thoroughout the world. The Iranian News Agency reported that a delegation of 35 British Muslims will be attending the event:
A thirty-five strong delegation of British Muslims are attending next week’s World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) Summit in Kuwait.
The summit from April 29 to May 1 is the fourth to be held to promote partnership between Muslim and non-Muslim businessmen by forging cooperation across borders among entrepreneurs in Muslim majority countries and those in other countries. Sir Iqbal Sacranie, former secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) leading the UK delegation, said the forum will serve as a “hub for potential business collaboration between different countries.” It will be a “platform for the exchange of cutting edge ideas between leaders in business and government both within and outside the region,” said Sacranie, who is also a member of the WIEF’s International Advisory Panel. The British delegation, which is attending with others from more than 60 countries, has been arranged by the MCB’s Business and Economic Committee and includes businessmen, bankers, lawyers and analysts.
A previous post reported that the British government has been pursuing a policy of “disengagement” from the MCB which is known to be dominated by U.K. Muslim Brotherhood groups.
A full analysis of the business interests involved in the Forum would require more extensive analysis. However, it is interesting to note that one of the two donors to the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) is identified as Yayasan Al Bukhary, a Malaysian Foundation chaired by Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al Bukhary, a wealth Malaysian businessman and philanthropist. Mr. Al Bukhary is also a major shareholder of MMC Corporation Bhd (MMC) which is the joint master developer of the Jazan Economic City (JEC) in Saudi Arabia along with the Saudi Binladin Group (SBG).
Discussion
Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al Bukhary is apparently not just a donor to the WIEF but its Chairman as well.
