Dr. AbdulHamid AbuSulayman, one of the most important figures in the history of the global Muslim Brotherhood, was a guest of honor at the 25th anniversary celebration of the International Islamic University Malaysia where he was rector from 1989-1999. On Tuesday May 20th, 2008 Dr. AbdulHamid AbuSulayman, President and Chairman of The Board of IIIT, was the guest of honor at the Silver Jubilee Celebration (25 years) at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Dr. AbuSulayman was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Education.Dr. AbuSulayman was rector of IIUM for 10 years (1989-1999). During his tenure, the University grew from a humble Madrassa of high school standard to a world class university with 15,000 student enrollment on a new campus that is considered a landmark in functional modern Islamic architecture. The event was presided over by Dr. Sayed Sunusi Junid, President of IIUM and attended by Dr. Sayed Al-Arab Edad, Rector of IIUM and Professor Sano Koutoub, Deptuy Rector, IIUM. Over one hundred faculty, staff and old friends of Dr. AbuSulayman also attended.
According to various biographies, Dr. AbuSulayman was born in Mecca Saudi Arabia and received his BA and MA at the University of Cairo and a PhD in International Relations at the University of Pennsylvania in 1973. His global Muslim Brotherhood affiliations includes:

-Founding member of The Association of Muslim Social Scientists (AMSS), 1972, and its former President, 1985-87

-Chairman, Department of Political Science at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 1982-84
Dr. AbuSulayman is currently Chairman of the Board and trustee of IIIT and its former president and founding member.
