In a recent sermon, the Supreme Guide of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood has said that “jihad is the path to liberate Al-Aqsa mosque.” According to a MEMRI translation:
Muslim Brotherhood General Guide Muhammad Mahdi ‘Akef said in his weekly sermon that jihad is the path to liberate Al-Aqsa mosque and that the obligation of jihad applies to the entire Islamic ummah, each according to his ability – and not only to the regimes or to the armed organizations in Palestine. He added that the concept of Jihad does not mean only military jihad, but also financial, cultural, media, and political jihad.
Previous posts have discussed the controversy arising from report, now denied, that Akef was planning to resign before his term ended in January. Other posts have discussed what now appears to be an organized campaign by the global Muslim Brotherhood to ignite conflict regard over the Al-Aqsa mosque.
