AFP is reporting that the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood has selected Mohammed Badie as its new leader (Supreme Guide), confirming earlier speculation. According to the report:
Egypt’s main opposition movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, appointed Mohammed Badie, a conservative figure, as its new leader, his predecessor told a news conference on Saturday. Badie, a veterinary professor at a university in southern Egypt, was “chosen by consensus by members of the consultative council,” Mohammed Akef said, adding the Brotherhood would work for a “renaissance” across the Muslim world.
