French media has reported last weekend’s annual meeting of the Union des organisations islamiques de France (Union of Islamic Organizations of France UOIF) where UOIF leaders complained about an “islamophobic climate” in France. According to a translated AFP report:
At the 27th annual convention of the Union des organisations islamiques de France leaders. denounced an “unhealthy and Islamophobic climate in France where they feel more and more “stigmatized.” Fouad Alaoui President of the UOIF, thought to be close to the Muslim Brotherhood, lambasted a “rampant Islamophobic climat”e. Opening the annual meeting, being held until Monday evening at the Parc des expositions Paris-Le Bourget, UOIF officials cited an “unhealthy climate fed by a growing stigma of the Muslim component in our country” .
Global Muslim Brotherhood leader Tariq Ramadan was scheduled to speak as he has at previous UOIF conventions. Also scheduled to speak was Chakib Bin Makhlouf, President of the Federation of Islamic Organizations In Europe (FIOE) representing the European Muslim Brotherhood. The UOIF is the FIOE French member organization.
