The Union of Good has announced that it is sending a land convoy to Gaza through the Rafah crossing in the next few days. According to the announcement:
The Union for Good (UFG) has launched an urgent relief campaign to provide Gaza Strip with humanitarian assistance and medical equipment by a land convoy through Rafah crossing within the coming few days. The UFG reaffirmed that the campaign was launched as emergency aid in light of the continued Israeli siege imposed on Gaza for the fourth consecutive year , under the severe humanitarian and economic situation that prevailed in Gaza, especially aftermath the last Israeli war. The preparation for this campaign also comes in light of the Egyptian authority decision to open Rafah crossing and allow the passage of humanitarian convoys and urgent relief to enter the besieged coastal enclave. The UFG also called on all charitable and humanitarian organizations to exert all efforts and respond to this humanitarian appeal to provide the basic needs for more than 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza. The Union for Good convoy will carry food material, canned food, clothes, shoes, and kitchen utensils, beside other relief material. The campaign will also provide medical needs and medicine that are urgently needed for the treatment of Gaza citizens, especially after the Israeli occupation had prevented many medicaments from entering Gaza.
The Union of Good is a coalition of Islamic charities headed by Global Muslim Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi and described a NEFA Foundation report as follows:
The Union of Good is a coalition of Islamic charities that provides financial support to both the Hamas “social” infrastructure, as well as its terrorist activities. It is headed by global Muslim Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi, and most of the trustees and member organizations are associated with the global Muslim Brotherhood. The Union of Good was banned by Israel in 2002 and was recently designated a terrorist entity by the United States, although neither Youssef Qaradawi nor any of the Trustees were similarly designated. Despite the fact that action has been taken against some of its member organizations in Europe, many of its other European member organizations continue to operate. Further, the Union of Good itself does not appear to be under investigation in Europe.
