Islamist media is reporting that a high-level Hamas delegation has arrived in the Iranian capital Tehran yesterday on an official visit. According to the Middle East Monitor report:
December 9, 2014 A high-level Hamas delegation arrived in the Iranian capital Tehran yesterday on an official visit that will last for several days.
Osama Hamdan, a Hamas leader and one of the delegation’s members, told Alresalah.net: “The delegation will hold intensive meetings with Iranian leaders about the developments of the Palestinian issue.”
Hamdan explained that the delegation is led by Mohammed Nasr, member of the political bureau of Hamas, and its members include Maher Obeid, Jamal Issa, and Khalid Al-Qaddumi, Hamas representative in Tehran.
Amir Mousavi, head of the Centre for Strategic Studies in Tehran, said he considered the visit a new page that has been opened between the two parties, stressing its importance.
In exclusive statements to Alresalah.net, he said: “The visit is seen as a prelude to the visit of Khaled Meshaal, the head of Hamas’s political bureau, to Tehran in the coming period.”
He stressed that the visit is crucial to the dispute dossier and clear evidence of the significant role Hamas plays for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Mousavi noted that during the forthcoming visit, Meshaal will meet with Iran’s leadership, including the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ali Khamenei.
The GMBDW reported in January on what was described the “rapprochement” between Hamas and Iran following a three year breach. The GMBDW reported in October 2013 that that Hamas had succeeded in re-establishing close ties with Iran.
