Islamist media is reporting that Hamas political leader Khalid Meshaal met last week in Doha, Qatar with the Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council. According to the Middle East Monitor report:
March 12, 2015 The head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Khaled Meshaal yesterday met Iranian Shura Council Speaker, Ali Larijani in Doha, Qatar.
Hamas said in a statement received by Resala news site that ‘during the meeting, the two officials exchanged views on developments in the Palestinian cause in the light of Israeli threats to Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem as well as the ongoing blockade of the Gaza Strip.’
Relations between Iran and Hamas have recently witnessed slight improvement, especially after a Hamas delegation visited Tehran and held several meetings with senior leaders there.
Unconfirmed reports suggested Meshaal is planning to visit Tehran.
The GMBDW reported in December 2014 that a high-level Hamas delegation had arrived in the Iranian capital Tehran yesterday on an official visit and was expected at that time to prepare for a trip to Tehran by Meshaal.
The GMBDW reported in January on what was described the “rapprochement” between Hamas and Iran following a three year breach. We had already reported in October 2013 that that Hamas had succeeded in re-establishing close ties with Iran.
